Seven Georgia Teams Showcased At 2002 USA Hockey
InLine National Championships
ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Seven Georgia teams are striving
for National titles here at The Cooler at the 2002 USA
Hockey InLine National Championships this week.
Georgia-based teams picked up eight wins in tournament
action today.
The host league, Cooler Inline Hockey Development, has
fielded four teams in this year's tournament: Mission
Cooler Selects 10-and-Under, Mission Cooler Selects
12-and-Under, Mission Cooler Selects 14-and-Under and
Mission Cooler Selects 17-and-Under.
Also competing this week are the Savannah Supergoose
10-and-Under and the Savannah Supergoose 12-and-Under,
both based out of Savannah, Ga.
In addition, Team Atlanta is representing the Peach
State in the 12-and-Under division of USA Hockey
InLine's first-ever Girls' National Championships.
"I think that since the high school programs in this
area are getting very strong, the kids are seeing that
and wanting to get started in the sport earlier," said
Stephan Normandeau (Alpharetta, Ga.), Hockey Director
for The Cooler and head coach of all four Mission
Cooler Select squads.
The USA Hockey InLine National Championships serve as
the nation's premier youth inline hockey event. This
year's tournament showcases 45 teams in six age
divisions and is the culmination of 10 USA Hockey
InLine Regional Championships held earlier this
spring. Teams will compete for national titles in the
10-and-Under, 12-and-Under, 14-and-Under and
17-and-Under age divisions. In addition, this year's
event features USA Hockey InLine's first-ever Girls'
National Championships, in the 12-and-Under and
17-and-Under categories.
The tournament is being held at The Cooler for the
first time in the history of the event. Tournament
play officially began today, and championship games
are scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 4. Statistics, game
results and selected web audiocasts will be available
