U.S TOPS AUSTRIA, 8-2, IN FINAL PRELIMINARY ROUND OF IIHF IN-LINE HOCKEY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The USA Hockey InLine National Team (3-0-0) concluded its preliminary round play undefeated with an 8-2 victory versus Austria (2-1-0). With the win, the U.S. clinched the top seed in Group B heading into the qualification round.
Forward David Brito (San Diego, Calif.) paced the United States, notching two goals, including the eventual game-winner, and adding three assists. Jason Deskins (Warren, Mich.) finished the game as the team's second-leading scorer, recording a hat trick plus an assist for four points. Brito and Deskins, plus defenseman Ernie Hartlieb (Sterling Heights, Mich.), combined for seven of Team USA's eight goals.
U.S. goaltender Jeff Reynaert (Sterling Heights, Mich.) earned the win in net, denying 48 of the 50 shots he faced. Reynaert was named the U.S. Player of the Game for his efforts.
As the No. 1 seed in Group B, Team USA moves to Nuremberg, Germany, and will next face the Czech Republic (2-1-0) on Wednesday, July 24 at 5:30 p.m. local time (11:30 a.m. EDT). Earlier today, the Czech Republic downed Argentina, 25-2, to finish the preliminary round as the second seed in Group C.
At the conclusion of the qualification round, which will take place from July 24-25, the teams will be re-seeded to form the A-Pool and B-Pool World Championships. Semifinal and relegation rounds for both pools are scheduled for July 26, and medal games will be played on July 27.
