Competitors from all over the World will be representing their respective Countries in this World Artistic Roller Skating Championships. This Artistic World Championships features competition in Dance, Figures, Freestyle (Pairs and Singles) & Precision Team Skating.
World Class Dance consists of Compulsory Dances, OSP (Optional Set Pattern), and Freedance
The Compulsory Dances are "Set-Pattern" dances with prescribed Rhythm, Type of music and steps and step placement on the skating surface.
The OSP (Optional Set-Pattern) portion of the Dance competition consists of a dance that is created by the Team, using their choice of standard dance steps and moves. (Optional) Once a team chooses the steps and pattern that brings them one full circuit of the floor, they must duplicate the same pattern and steps for each successive repetition. (3) (Set-Pattern)
The Type of Music, and the Tempo for the OSP is chosen by the Governing Organization some months prior to the World Event.
The entire Free Dance is normally Choreographed by the Skaters and the Coach.
The Team selects their own choice of Music, (Music type and rhythm changes are permitted), and they select the steps of the dance as well as the placement on the skating surface.
Minor "Freestyle-Type" lifts and spins are permitted, but quite limited in scope.
FIGURE SKATING, which has been seperated from Freestyle (pairs) skating for decades, is skated on a set of circles whose lines are painted on the floor. The size of the circle is Set, and is Not dependent on the size of the skater

There are 30 foot Circles (Long Figures) where the competitor skates difficult, multi-turn figures on one foot, then the other. These figures also consist of Inner and Outer Edges . There are also much smaller Figures painted on the floor. These are the Loop Figures. As with the Long figures, the Loop figures also must be skated as Paragraph figures, first on one foot, then the other. There is a very small LOOP in the middle of this figure which the skater must trace correctly, with good body posture and control. Both the LONG and LOOP figures are "Paragraph" figures, wherein TWO FULL circles are used on each foot, and the figure must be traced THREE times for completion.
FREESTYLE Skating consists of either a Solo performance (SINGLES) or a Team
performance, (PAIRS). Much like FREEDANCE, the skaters and their Coach(es) decide on the Music type and Tempo, as well as the Footwork, Lifts, Spins etc. that they will skate to.
However, unlike Free Dance, the couple is not limited as to how high the Man is permitted to lift the Lady, nor how many revolutions (Maximum) they are allowed in their spins.
Also, there is no limit (Minimum or Maximum) placed on the number of Revolutions they achieve in the air on a Jump, neither Singly nor in Team Position.
What DOES dictate the content of a World Class Freestyle routine is the Competition's abilities and Mastery of each Jump, etc. Therefore, each Team or Individual tries to master the most difficult jumps and add new Moves and Positions to better the scores of their Competition.
PRECISION TEAM competition consists of around 12 or so skaters, who perform precision skating movements as a
group,
to music. There are no lifts or full revolution jumps in this division. The top three teams from last year's nationals will skate at this year's Worlds. The competition will be a full medal event and will count in the overall team medal count.
The top three US Precision teams this year (2000) will represent the United States in 2001 in Italy.
ALL skaters who are skating this prestigious event must have first qualified by winning a "Placement" (1st, 2nd or 3rd) at their Artistic Sectional, Area, Regional or other such events in order to be eligible to skate their Country's National Championships Event.
Placements from the individual countries Artistic National Championships join the "World Team" of their respective Country, and are eligible to skate the "Worlds" Competition.
This arrangement also holds true for other disciplines of our sport, such as Roller Hockey, Speed,
etc. At this time, we have not received information from the other branches of the sport, and therefore cannot feature them in their own Site on the Roller Sports Web. We do, however, have high hopes that this coming new season will bring us the connections in the other disciplines of the sport to allow us to also feature them on the RS Web.
